Our Story

Charles R. Horton, DVM


Since 1995, Hampton Cove Animal Hospital has been dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary care to our community. It all began when Dr. Charles Horton opened our doors with a simple but powerful vision: to deliver the highest standard of care to every pet and every family we serve.

In 1998, Dr. Chris Herring took the lead, building on that strong foundation. Under his guidance, our services expanded, but the commitment to excellence never changed — because we believe that going the extra mile is always worth it.

Our growth continued in 2013 with the launch of Covepets — a dedicated facility offering professional grooming, Doggie DayCare, and luxury boarding. With this addition, we made it easier than ever to support every aspect of your pet’s well-being.

Throughout the years, one thing has remained constant: our mission. Thorough Medicine, Compassionate Care, and Excellent Service. These principles, set in motion by Dr. Horton, still guide everything we do — and we’re proud to carry that legacy into the future.

We are monitoring the weather and road conditions for the winter weather expected to move into our area this evening into tomorrow. Due to the high chance of dangerous travel conditions we will not be opening at our normal 7am for Covepets and 7:15am
We are monitoring the weather and road conditions for the winter weather expected to move into our area this evening into tomorrow. Due to the high chance of dangerous travel conditions we will not be opening at our normal 7am for Covepets and 7:15am for the hospital tomorrow January 10, 2025. We will continue to monitor the conditions and make a determination on if we will be able to safely get team members there later in the morning to provide services as we see the road conditions in the morning. We will be updating here and on our Facebook. We will have a small team here 24 hours a day to care for our boarding pets until the roads are safe to travel again. For safety reasons this team will only be able to care for boarders and our facilities will remain locked. If you have a pet boarding and/or need to drop a pet off for boarding while we are closed for weather call 256-533-3385 choose ext. 2 and leave a voicemail. Our team will return your call and try to accommodate any needs possible.
