It was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Charles Horton to the new facility for a tour. Dr. Horton founded Hampton Cove Animal Hospital and has been a tremendous influence in our profession. Below is an excerpt from the plaque honoring Dr. Horton.

Dr. Charles R. Horton a graduate of Auburn University and founded Northway Animal Hospital in 1967. He was a prominent veterinarian in the Huntsville area for over 30 years. He cared for many pets as well as working animals including the famous monkey-astronaut, Miss Baker, from 1971 until her passing in 1984. He founded Hampton Cove Animal Hospital in 1994 and practiced until his retirement in 1999 when Dr. Herring purchased the hospital. Dr. Horton’s legacy of compassionate care and excellence in service remains our mission today. Dr. Horton and his wife Rita are currently enjoying retirement in the Hampton Cove area.
